While the origin of snowmen remains unclear, they have been built throughout history.

The earliest known photograph of a snowman was taken circa 1853 by Welsh photographer Mary Dillwyn. With the help of Prince Albert, who brought the holiday traditions of Germany to England, and Hans Christian Andersen, who used his story telling ability to firmly solidify the snowman in the holiday tradition.
